Majid is from Saudi Arabia, and came to the United States to attend university. Saudi Arabia is a big country that is full of culture, and he felt everyone there was always tied up in their religious traditions. Because of this, he wanted to step out of his comfort zone and meet people of different cultures in the U.S. When Majid first came to the U.S., he only hung out with Arab students. Originally, he did not want to hang out with Americans because he thought they might have a stereotype against Arabs and Muslims. Eventually, Majid started to make friends with people from different cultural backgrounds in order to get a better understanding of different cultures. Now, after hanging out with different people, Majid views life in different points of view. When Majid learned that respect of the elders is important in Asian culture and in his own culture as well, he realized that different cultures can be interconnected in some ways. His experience in the U.S. made him grow as a man and helped him to become a well-rounded person. At the same time, Majid uses his background as an Arab Muslim to educate his fellow students about his culture. He also helps to clarify questions about Saudi Arabia that his classmates may have. Majid wants to have the experience of working in the U.S. after graduating LMU, but eventually plans to go back home to help improve his country.
